Social Investment
Ulwazi Group conducts its business, amongst others, in areas that are still under developed and poverty stricken.
As a responsible corporate citizen, the group has introduced a Corporate Social Investment programme which will focus in areas the company is already operating. The programme will later be expanded accordingly as the company makes inroads in areas beyond its current scope.
MANDELA DAY
As a responsible corporate citizen, the group has introduced a Corporate Social Investment programme which will focus in areas the company is already operating, for instance Tswane Municipality (Old Kungwini Municipality). The programme will later be expanded accordingly as the company makes inroads in areas beyond its current scope.
It is in this light that the Ulwazi Group threw their heart and soul into Mandela Day 2011, by selecting three Day Care centres to visit, on honour of the great leader Nelson Mandela. The Day care centres were:
- SITHEMBINKOSI DAY CARE CENTRE - RETHABISENG
- LINDOKUHLE DAY CARE CENTRE - ENKANGALA
- UNCEDO DAY CARE CENTRE - ZITHOBENI
Truck loads of Educational toys/groceries/party packs and snacks were delivered to the various Care centres. The staff took time palying games with the children and reading to them. This was a wonderful day spent with these special care centres, and a humbling experience for all. Many staff members were found wiping tears from their eyes. Comments from the staff members ranged from "I'm in love with this baby!” to “I don’t want to leave"...
They were all of the opinion that they want to continue this effort on a monthly basis as this was such an enriching experience. Bongani Mabizela - CEO of Ulwazi Group commented : "This is an amazing and humbling experience – We thank God for a man like Madiba, who tought us how to give – unconditionally – to others. That.s all we are trying to do here today - to make a small difference in these kids's lives! We will be back – that.s for sure!"
Jail a Victim for Child Care
Ulwazi Group annually takes part in the "Jail a Victim For Child Care". This is an initiative organised by Sport Against Crime, whereby a mobile jail was arranged, together with SAPS - positioned in various Shopping Centres around Midrand on Tuesday 26th April, 2011.
The "offender", Nola Schreuder from Ulwazi Group - Tender Department, was arrested charged and jailed for "fraud". She was held in a "make-shift jail" for an hour at Randjiespark Shopping Centre, along with staff members from other companies, all based at Corporate Park South. Bail for Nola, was set at the amount of R300.00 and this was negotiated by Ulwazi Protection Services GM - Lucky Nxumalo. After successful negotiations, Nola was released - much to her relieve! Proceeds for the event goes to the Pretoria Child Wellfare.
This annual event is staged to raise awareness against Crime as well as raise funds for a worthy charity! It is always our pleasure to support such ventures and we thank the organisers for their ongoing efforts in this regard.
