Ulwazi Health Awareness Campaign - Winter 2011 – Ulwazi Staff Get Their Flu Vaccine

21st April 2011, was flue vaccination day at Ulwazi Head Quarters in Midrand. All the staff on-site received their in-activated influenza vaccine – otherwise known as ”Influ-Vac”, in order to fight the flu strains of 2011.

Nurse Riandi Nieman from Pharma-Valu Group of Pharmacies, spent the morning at the Ulwazi Offices, to make sure that all the staff received their injections. The vaccination involves injecting the patient with the dead virus in order to stimulate the immune system and to allow the body to build anti-bodies against the virus. When the patient does get flu, the body recognizes the strain, and immediately starts fighting against it, as it already has the anti- bodies to do so!

This injection is given intra-muscular, into the Deltoid muscle in the arm. The general public are urged to get inoculated every year against the new flu strain pertaining to that particular season, starting from March onwards. Patients must also increase their intake of Vitamin C, by way of B12 Injections or the drinking of effervescent Vitamin drinks daily. Up to 1000mg of Vitamin C can be taken daily or as directed by a physician.

Ulwazi Management trust that this precautionary measure will enable their staff have a healthy and “flue-Free” winter. This is another step in providing Ulwazi Staff members with the Healthcare they deserve, and forms part of the ongoing Ulwazi Health Awareness Campaign, whereby the Ulwazi Group provides Their staff with ongoing Training / testing / assistance and up to date information on various medical issues.

"Our staff are our greatest asset and we want them to be as healthy as possible whilst working for the Ulwazi Group. The flue vaccination is a preventative measure that we implemented in order to prevent our staff form getting the dreaded Winter flu!" says Bongani Mabizela, Group Chief Executive Officer.

Ulwazi Health Awareness Campaign – World Aids Day 2010

In celebration of World Aids Day Ulwazi Groups’ employees were invited to take part in a Health and Wellness Day event, which took place on the 01st December 2010. This event left much to be desired as it was the first time such initiative had been held in the company. The occasion didn’t go pass unnoticed with expertise from Zonge Consulting and Eye Care which provided us with food for thought when it comes of overall Health and Wellbeing. During the event we as employees were taken through different stations such as: Health Screening, Eye Screening, Educational Video, HIV Group Counseling and Individual pre-test counseling, HIV testing and post-test counseling. Such initiative help us to get an overview as to the status of one’s health and how one foresee to improve on it.The company wishes to thank everyone who took part in the event. In the year ahead we wish to roll the initiative out to all other areas of business. Any queries can be posted to the Human Resource Department of Ulwazi Group

Ulwazi Funeral Plan

It is always a hard time when an employee passes away and the last thing a company want to be thinking about are the funeral costs. You want to be spending time putting plans into place by empowering the employee to achieve his or her goals, as well as for the employee him or herself to spend time with family and friends. In times of bereavement you also don’t wish the family to think where the money is going to come from for a funeral - this is where funeral cover comes in. Ulwazi Group in partnership with Safrican Insurance Company has embark on a journey to provide funeral cover for its employees. This funeral cover is to the amount of R 15000.00 for management and office staff, and R 10 000.00 for general workers (security and cleaning staff). The Funeral Cover, shall pay out a Basic Funeral benefit, to the Principal Member or his/her spouse, where a valid death claim has been settled by Safrican. The last thing we want is more stress for the family and there is n o doubt that financial strain equals stress.

This benefit is the first of its kind for the company and the positive response receive by stakeholders is much appreciated. Should there be any inquiries about the above, such can be directed to the Human Resource Department of Ulwazi Group.
